In 2023 ben ik begonnen aan een project dat tot op heden voortduurt. Ik beweeg me door het landschap en leg dit vast met een minidrone die ik zelf kan besturen. Dit stelt me in staat om het werk alleen te doen. Dit aspect is belangrijk in al mijn werk. De camera voelt als een verlengstuk van mezelf. Ik kijk naar mezelf van buitenaf. Als mens ben ik mijn lichaam, ben ik in mijn lichaam èn ben ik buiten mijn lichaam. Door de drone te gebruiken, heb ik een belangrijke nieuwe perspectiefverschuiving kunnen bereiken. De camera beweegt zich los van de grond, de lucht in en kan mijn bewegingen vanaf een grote afstand vastleggen.
Elke door de drone vastgelegde performance is een intiem moment gedeeld door mij met het landschap. Mijn werk beweegt tussen aanwezigheid en verdwijnen, controle en overgave, en raakt aan existentiële vragen over verbondenheid, vervreemding en thuis-zijn. Dit project telt (tot nu toe) drie hoofdstukken. Na Walcheren en Noord-Beveland was in januari en februari 2026 het Verklikkerstrand op de Kop van Schouwen de locatie voor mijn registraties.
Hoofdstuk 1: januari - december 2023/2024 (jaar rond, alle seizoenen), locatie: Walcheren (het schiereiland in Zeeland waarop ik ben geboren)
Hoofdstuk 2: januari - juli 2025 (half jaar), locatie: Noord-Beveland (het eerste eiland ten noorden van Walcheren)
Hoofdstuk 3: januari en februari 2026 (twee wintermaanden), locatie: het Verklikkerstrand, Schouwen-Duiveland (het tweede eiland ten noorden van Walcheren)

In 2023, I started a project that continues to this day. I move through the landscape and capture it with a mini-drone that I can control myself. This enables me to do the work alone. This aspect is important in all my work. The camera feels like an extension of myself. I look at myself from the outside. As a human being, I am my body, I am in my body, ànd I am outside my body. By using the drone, I have been able to achieve an important new shift in perspective. The camera moves detached from the ground, into the air, and can capture my movements from a great distance.
Every performance registered by the drone is an intimate moment shared by me with the landscape. My work moves between presence and disappearance, control and surrender, and touches upon existential questions about connection, alienation, and being at home. This project comprises (so far) three chapters. After Walcheren and Noord-Beveland, the Verklikkerstrand (“Snitch Beach”) on the Kop van Schouwen was the location for my recordings in January and February 2026.
Chapter 1: January - December 2023/2024 (year-round, all seasons), location: Walcheren (the peninsula in Zeeland (southwest Netherlands) where I was born)
Chapter 2: January - July 2025 (half year), location: Noord-Beveland (the first island north of Walcheren)
Chapter 3: January and February 2026 (two winter months), location: Verklikkerstrand, Schouwen-Duiveland (the second island north of Walcheren)

FIRST CHAPTER: WALCHEREN
January - December 2023/2024

In het uitgerekte verticale filmbeeld van het eerste hoofdstuk (Walcheren) in dit project zoomt de drone uit totdat mijn lichaam bijna verdwijnt en de omgeving het beeld overneemt. In elke film stijgt de camera in een spiraalvorm rond het onderwerp: mijn steeds kleiner wordende, rollende lichaam op de grond. Ik beweeg me binnen de grenzen van Walcheren, een schiereiland dat aan bijna alle kanten wordt begrensd door de kustlijn. Door over het land te rollen en deze beweging talloze keren gedurende het jaar (en tot in het nieuwe jaar) te herhalen, doe ik een wanhopige poging om het toe te eigenen. Ik laat er mijn sporen in achter, niet altijd zichtbaar en altijd tijdelijk. Omgekeerd laat het landschap altijd sporen op mij achter. Waar mijn huid tastbaar contact maakt met de grond, ben ik beperkt.

In the stretched vertical film image of the first chapter (Walcheren) in this project, the drone zooms out until my body almost disappears and the surroundings take over the frame. In every film, the camera ascends in a spiral around the subject: my ever-shrinking, rolling body on the ground. I move within the boundaries of Walcheren, a peninsula bordered on almost all sides by the coastline. By rolling across the land and repeating this movement countless times throughout the year (and into the new year), I make a desperate attempt to appropriate it. I leave my traces in it, not always visible and always temporary. Conversely, the landscape always leaves traces on me. Where my skin makes tangible contact with the ground, I am limited.

Het tweede hoofdstuk (Noord Beveland) is gemaakt in opdracht van Catherina Maria Hof (Kamperland, Noord Beveland) en was te zien in de groepstentoonstelling (On)rust in de polder (2025). Dit project bestaat uit drie delen: onrust, rust en aanvullende tijdelijke tekeningen in mijn huid.

Het derde hoofdstuk (Schouwen Duiveland) is gemaakt in opdracht van Bewaerschole (Burgh-Haamstede, Schouwen-Duiveland) en gefilmd tijdens mijn residentie in AIR Ellemeet in januari en februari 2026. Momenteel te zien in solotentoonstelling Alles Verschuift Hier Op De Kop (11 april - 17 juni 2026).
